Internet messenger helps us to communicate with your friends often.  Most Email and social networking Websites have chat option by default. Popular ones are yahoo, gmail, facebook, orkut, AIM,  etc. instead logging in to each website seperately in browser, we can use im clients to manage multiple accounts.

Pidgin

Pidgin is an opensource im client. Pidgin is compatible with the following chat networks out of the box: AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MXit, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr. It can support many more with plugins.

Pidgin supports many features of these chat networks, such as file transfers, away messages, buddy icons, custom smilies, and typing notifications. Numerous plugins also extend Pidgin’s functionality above and beyond the standard features.

Available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Even Portable edition is also available in other websites.

The Plugins for facebook chat is also available. The plugins facility gives more power to pidgin.
